Welcome back! 2017 - 1018
On Wednesday 6th September we had our first special assembly with a new visitor to the school for the first time.
Bishop Right Reverend Mark Bryant who is the Bishop of Jarrow came to introduce himself along with Reverend Worsley and Mavis (who we already know from Christ Church).
He told us one of his favourite stories and showed us his robes that he wears in Church. The children loved it and were fully engaged.
Lights Camel Action!
Years 1 and 2 performed a spectacular nativity this year. The theme was Strictly Come Dancing and the show was titled 'Lights, Camel, Action!' The traditional nativity was told through a series of songs and dances. Each and every child was superb and thoroughly enjoyed the show. We hope you all did too!
The Brandling Dog Challenge Route
Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon with Steve and Faye from Pattinson House. The children designed a mile route around the school premises. They mapped it out and it looked like a dog so that is how the mile route got its name. The children ran around the route in pairs and had a great time. When back in the classroom, the children made a list of the places in their route. Everyone is excited for the next session with Steve and Faye where they are going to work on markers.
World Book Day 2017
The children have made a fantastic effort this year dressing up as their favourite book characters. As part of this, the teachers have designed activities for all of the year groups to participate in. These have included fairy tales, Roald Dahl, word play, animal stories, picture books, play scripts, non-fiction and instructions.
Tracey Corderoy, the children's author, paid us a visit to tell us all about writing books. She read us one of her stories(Shifty McGrifty) and she showed us how to draw one of the characters. It was entertaining, informative but best of all Fun!
Halloween Disco. This year was the scariest ever! The children had a great time so a big thank you to those parents who organised the whole thing! Bring on the next one!
Pupils from Haskel Jewish School, Gateshead, paid us a visit in October. They were very impressed with our Forest school activities but most of all by how friendly our children are!
Firehorse Productions present 'The B Word'
Phoebe, Tom and Dannii came to our school to put on an anti-bullying play for the whole school. Although the workshop was very funny, it had a very serious message about being kind and treating others as you would like to be treated yourself. We take bullying very seriously at Brandling and this workshop taught us a lot.
Author visit
Craig Bradley is a local poet and author who visited our school in November. He was very entertaining and the children loved him!
Music Workshop
This term, we were lucky enough to have a music workshop all about different music around the world. Here is a video of the children and staff enjoying music from Greece!
